Ocean Waves
.) What is a wave train? A group of waves of equal or similar wavelengths traveling in the same direction.
.) What happens when there is interference of wave trains? It depends on the amplitude of the waves.
.) What is a tsunami? A tsunami is when an earthquake occurs and creates massive waves in the ocean causing these waves to crash into the city. Tsunami's are very dangerous natural disasters and they cause a lot of damage.
.) What are some of the causes of a tsunami? Tsunami's are caused by Earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides.
.) What is swash? Swash is the rush of seawater up the beach after the breaking of a wave.
.) How is swash involved in erosion? It brings the rocks from the sand into the ocean and the minerals will eventually erode.
.) What can be done about tsunami's to help protect property and people? I think that we can send out warnings to everyone in the city to run and get on high ground. I don't think we can protects property from this disaster because its such a big wave coming at such a fast speed. The best thing that I think they can do is make property by the water more durable.
.) What is a rouge wave? How are they created? How big can they get? A Rogue wave is a wave focused on wave trains and currents to produce a large wave. They can reach up to 100ft. and cause many shipwrecks.
.) What happens to waves in shallow water? Explain. When waves move into shallow water, it's behavior changes dramatically because the water molecules come into contact with the seafloor.
.) What is swash? What does it do? How is it involved in erosion? Swash is when waves roll up and down the beach shore in foaming sheets of water. Swash is involved in erosion because the waves which are caused by the wind and generates strong currents.
.) What is a tsunami? Explain how they are different than wind generated waves.
A tsunami is the largest and strongest wave on earth. Tsunamis are different from a generated wind because they travel very fast.
.) What are some of the causes of tsunamis? Explain. The causes of tsunamis are underwater landslides, volcanic eruptions, asteroids falling into the sea, and usually caused by earthquakes.
